Our program (planned)
SandLife is a nonprofit in formation. Everything below is a plan. No grants have been applied for or received.
- Track: keep the project tracker current from state, federal and county records.
- Monitor: run simple, repeatable counts of mole crabs, coquinas and ghost crab burrows before and after placement, at project and control beaches, with volunteers trained on a written protocol and, ideally, a university partner.
- Replenish (pilot): test whether moving mole crabs from nearby healthy beaches speeds recovery after placement, only with the required FWC and permit approvals.
- Advocate: ask agencies to add invertebrate monitoring, compatible sand and timing windows to permits (how).
Grant targets
- NFWF National Coastal Resilience Fund (nonprofits are eligible per the 2026 FAQ).
- NOAA coastal and habitat grants (Grants.gov search)
- Florida Sea Grant: research partnership with a university.
- FWC grants and partnerships
Grant eligibility will depend on completing incorporation and, for some programs, IRS tax-exempt recognition.
